Beginning with the head.
Draw a circle on your piece of paper that will serve as the butterfly's head. Make sure there is enough room to eventually put wings on each side!
Now let's add a body.
Draw a long, slender oval that connects back up to the right side of the head, starting at the bottom left of the head. Your butterfly's body is here.
Start with the wings.
Each and every butterfly requires wings! Now let's add some. Draw a curving line starting at the top left of your butterfly's head and extending to about halfway down the left side of the butterfly's body. Do the same thing now on the right side! These
Put an end to their wings!
Draw a second curved line that bends outward like a circle and connects back to the bottom left of the butterfly's body to complete the left wing. Start at the point where the top half of the wing curves towards the body. Do the same thing now on the right side. There they are—two adorable tiny wings! All butterflies are lovely. Thus, it doesn't matter if they are symmetrical.
Add a face and some antennas.
Let's add some personality to your butterfly! Draw two lines: one that comes up and spirals left, and one that comes up and spirals left, starting at the top of their round head. If you prefer, add a few little circles near the very end. Your butterfly antennas are these. You could also give the butterfly's face some eyes and grinning lips for more personality!
Let's finish by decorating!
Try drawing two circles inside each other on the upper part of the wings, towards the top outer edge. Add one straightforward circle on the bottom outer edge to the bottom half of the wings. Try adding three gently curved lines across the body for the body. So there you have it—how to design a butterfly!
